Interstellar Overdrive: Zappa jams with Pink Floyd

Yep, Zappa even stepped in and jammed with Pink Floyd for a rendition of Interstellar Overdrive (a Syd Barrett compilation) at a horrible outdoor festival in Belgium in 1969. By all reports, the festival was a disaster, but yet this audio shows flickers of excellence. Unfortunately, the video of this is still in contest. Kind of cool though. Zappa helping out a bit during the transition from Barrett to Gilmour on one of Barrett’s signature tracks from Piper at the Gates of Dawn…..

Nick Mason has this to say in 1973:

“Frank Zappa is really one of those rare musicians that can play with us. The little he did in Amougies was terribly correct. But he’s the exception. Our music and the way we behave on stage, makes it very hard to improvise with us.”
