Fuck you in the ass, because you love Jesus.

Oh God, these women are two of the most important and talented cultural producers of our era. Garfunkel and Oates! This is the perfect oppositional cultural product for this current era when a bunch of white conservative Christians are actively and successfully militating to eliminate the right to abortion, continuing to replace sex education with religious bullshit, and (in their wet dream) to make contraception illegal. But, if contraception is illegal, the insurance companies are gonna be funding cultural production to make anal sex much more normative. You gotta think outside the box if you aren’t picking up monthly’s that include the risk of pregnancy.

    These ladies deserve Nobel prizes.

This probably trumps their Sex with Ducks. Though, while it is nowhere near as politically relevant, “This Party Took a Turn for the Douche” will always remain my favorite of theirs.

Wait. Sodomy’s okay now with Christians? Good to know, I guess.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m always up for a clever mocking of archaic and otherwise demeaning social norms pushed by teensy-minded folks. But other than a precious few denominations which explicitly Welcome LGBT folks–e.g. UUs & Episcopalians–sodomy is still very much a no-no among Christians overall and, of course, especially among Fundies.

So, I really don’t get the relevance of this video.*
I mean, if you’re gonna mock with any credibility, at least demonstrate you know a little about what it is you’re mocking. That’s the whole point of satire, no?

Anyhoo. I am indeed aware that anal sex (and oral, for that matter) is a problem with youngsters who ignorantly believe that it’s not “really” sex. But that has everything to do with sorely inadequate sex ed, not religion per se. The Christians who are ardently peddling abstinence are equally peddling the “evils” of sodomy.

*But I do totally love their name! What can I say, I’m a child of the ’60s.

I think they do understand the subculture, and that is where they got the idea. It’s not mainstream, but many conservative Christian youth have sought a “loophole”—notably there is a similar undercurrent to subvert proscriptions against sex in Islam. But they don’t have funny videos….I don’t think…..

Evidence of this? I don’t see any in the OP or on the thread. Only conjecture by … well, folks who seem otherwise inclined toward such conjectures. (I’ll say it: folks who simply enjoy bashing Christians for the sport of it, substantiation notwithstanding.)

As it stands via studies I’m familiar with, I *seriously* doubt that there is a worry-worthy population of Fundie Christian youth who believe anal sex is a magic loophole. After all, it’s exactly this demo of kids who’ve been closely indoctrinated into the “evils” of sodomy.

But perhaps you’re right. Perhaps there’s a subculture I’m unaware of even within Fundie Christianity — which is rather a subculture itself within greater Christianity, demographically speaking — with youngsters who genuinely believe anal sex isn’t sex and Jesus is a-okay with it.

Even if that is true, which so far there is zero evidence presented that it is, it would be such a minute fraction of Christian practitioners as to be irrelevant. Which is what makes this video not at all relevant, satirically speaking.

Look. Both sodomy and premarital sex are vehemently proscribed within Fundie Christianity, and both are equally, albeit variously, frowned upon within greater Christianity. That said, if this video was intended to be relevant satire, it’s a horribly sloppy attempt. I’m fairly convinced it was simply intended as red meat for anti-theists. Whatever. But let’s not call it clever satire which indeed has social relevance.

I’ll just leave it at this: this video seems obviously targeted toward folks who hate Christianity but don’t know shit about it. I’ve no more appreciation for it than I do for anti-Islam stuff puked out by people who know shit about Islam.
